Expert carpenters don't just know how to fix things. They know how to build to avoid those problems. Building with the intent for everything to break down is a big part of the problem with the way everything is today. The rest of the problem is building things that can't be fixed, so that we have to go back to the manufacturer for replacements. Old houses are better than new houses because they were built to last.

Amazing! If every customer was a top paying customer I’d do this every time. It’s the only way to go. But sometimes I’ll do a job in the suburbs and the customer will request everything to be protected, I until they see the bill. People don’t realize that It can add thousands to the cost when you include all the materials and time to lay everything down.

My house was built in 1919 and I need to replace trim but I can't find the right profile. I was quoted a price of over $400 just for them to make a cutter for their shaper to match my trim. Then over $200 for the two 10 foot pieces of wood that I would get. I could make do with something that is new with similar shape and some modifications but it would still not match. so I'm going to have to make a piece of it myself.

I think you should install window "flush" with zip panel. Easier to tape, more secure then folding tape in 90 degrees. You also do not create condensation point by thinning insulated wall with window pushed back. BTW, windows are fantastic, just installed manufactured by polish company eko-okna. Fantastic, no comparison to anderson/ marvin.

Rissinger had a great solution to this, bug screen was a corrugated plastic with a mesh on the bottom that stapled along the bottom and top edges. Same air flow and helps ensure bugs in the walls is minimized. Product was cheap too.

Wasn't there a debate about the softness of the screen material where rodents could chew threw it? but in Matt's case, he had 3/4" gap. 1/4" inch, no (er most) rodents could enter, but opens possibility for bugs.

Jake, I just posted this question on another video that I think you were in as well. I am installing European windows and my windows are really tall and I was wanting to stand in the seal. Here is the question I posted on another video. OK out of the blue crazy question, I see all the videos of applying the liquid flash starting at the seal, I was wanting to start mine at the head and do the seal last because my windows are so large that I was going to stand in the windowsill to do the head and the jam and then do the windowsill last am I crazy? Is that stupid just thought about it what if I did the window seal just 6 inches in on each side first then the jam and head and then do the middle between the 2 6 inches of the jam last.

I have a question about the way that you bumped out the stool, and returned it into the chair rail. I'm guessing that since you made the chair rail on the fly that it is a different profile then the profile on the windowsill. This has been on my mind for a couple of weeks now. If you don't mind please enlighten me so I can get some sleep! Thank you

I am from the future, 2024, 😂, I am a English Gentleman 😂, retired in my 70s , living in France now, over my 50 years of working for my self, I have made most of the doors you speaking about, and renovated them as well, one particular and frame entranceway into a property off the main road, I’ve actually restored and repaired it twice, as it has been hit by two lorries on different occasions, the first time the canopy on the front with the pillars moulded on the side was completely ripped off the side of the building, in the process of laying out all the parts to see how it constructed, it got the date in the inside of one of the panels 1739 , with a person’s name written on the board as well obviously the person who made the door and frame, I find it very interesting how things are constructed over the hundreds of years, And as time moves on with new machinery and technology comes out out, joints and construction becomes more refined, I still have some of my tools and machinery, one particular machine may buy Wadkin EKA 5head , built back in the late 40s early 50s, I restored it, even to this day it is a excellent bit of kit, I’m hoping in the not too distant future to make some new windows for my property where I live in France luckily I’ve got all the kit to do it, I find your territorial very very interesting, I even have some books from America on detailing of doors and cabinetry work ,
